Named for circulation—and a flower.

Cesalpino brings together Andrea Cesalpino, the physician and botanist whose work belongs to the history of blood circulation, andCaesalpinia pulcherrima, the vivid flowering plant that carries his name. One gives us the clinical lineage; the other gives the name warmth, colour and life.

Why Cesalpino

A physician, a botanist and a flowering plant.

The name was chosen for both parts of its history. It is not only a reference to blood. It also belongs to a plant whose warm coral, red, orange and yellow flowers feel alive and unmistakable.

Andrea Cesalpino

The clinical connection

Cesalpino was a sixteenth-century Italian physician, botanist and natural philosopher. His writing on the heart, vessels and movement of blood forms part of the history that preceded the modern account of circulation. His botanical work also helped organise plants by their observable structures.

Caesalpinia pulcherrima

The living connection

The species is an accepted member of the legume family and is now grown across tropical regions, including India. Its layered petals, long stamens and saturated colour are the warmer half of the Cesalpino identity: clinical precision without a cold clinical character.

What we are

A transfusion service, built from the donor end first.

Cesalpino is a veterinary transfusion medicine service based in Mumbai. We manage donor care, prepare leukocyte-reduced packed red blood cells and fresh frozen plasma, provide typing and cross-matching, perform transfusions, monitor patients and record outcomes.

Product availability matters, but it is not the whole clinical problem. A safe transfusion also depends on indication review, component selection, compatibility testing, administration, monitoring and a usable record of the patient’s transfusion history.

The donor programme supports that work. Healthy, screened and well-monitored donors make planned component therapy possible; experienced clinical management turns the component into a safe transfusion.

Clinical standards

How the service is governed.

Donor eligibility, screening, component preparation, compatibility, transfusion monitoring and reaction follow-up are managed as one clinical system.

Clinical responsibility

Veterinary decisions stay clinical

Cesalpino’s veterinary team decides donor eligibility, prepares and matches components, and manages the transfusions it performs. The treating veterinarian remains responsible for the patient and the decision to transfuse.

Our commitments

How we intend to work

Donor welfare decides whether a collection happens, every time, with no exceptions for a difficult day.

Other practices participate only after registration and clinical onboarding review. Products are never issued directly to pet parents.

Every donor is a named individual with a record. We tell families what we find, including when it is not what they hoped to hear.

Service scope

Veterinary transfusion medicine in Mumbai.

Cesalpino currently works with canine donors and veterinary practices in Mumbai. Participating practices are registered and clinically evaluated before they can request products or service support.

Two ways to be part of this.

If you have a dog between one and nine who is healthy and good with handling, the donor programme needs you. If you are a veterinary practice in Mumbai, register with us before you have a patient bleeding on the table rather than after.
